South Loop

 (Back to Map)

The South Loop has been developing since the early 80’s and continues to experience a construction boom. A century ago, this neighborhood was Chicago’s most famous gambling and prostitution district. Now the South Loop has been steadily increasing in popularity, driven by its proximity to the loop as well as the lakefront and Grant Park. Many loft conversions, luxury new construction buildings and the new Soldier Field have further broadened the neighborhood's appeal to visitors and prospective residents alike. Bordered by the lake, Cermak to the south and Canal Street to the west, the South Loop includes the historic rowhouses of Printer's Row and the Dearborn Park residential development.  Everywhere you look in the South Loop these days you see cranes of new modern 50+ story buildings going up. Its a very exciting place!
